WORD

15When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16A second time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17He said to him the third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. 18Very truly, I tell you, when you were younger, you used to fasten your own belt and to go wherever you wished. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will fasten a belt around you and take you where you do not wish to go.” 19(He said this to indicate the kind of death by which he would glorify God.) After this he said to him, “Follow me.”

WORD

13Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.  14You are the light of the world.  A city built on a hill cannot be hidden.  15No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.  16In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

WORD

1Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father.  Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.  2The devil had already put it into the heart of Judas son of Simon Iscariot to betray him.  And during supper 3Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, 4got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself.  5Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him.  6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”  7Jesus answered, “You do not know now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”  8Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet.”  Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no share with me.”  9Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!”  10Jesus said to him, “One who has bathed does not need to wash, except for the feet, but is entirely clean.  And you are clean, though not all of you.”  11For he knew who was to betray him; for this reason he said, “Not all of you are clean.”  12After he had washed their feet, had put on his robe, and had returned to the table, he said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?  13You call me Teacher and Lord—and you are right, for that is what I am.  14So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.  15For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.  16Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them.  17If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.

WORD

38As Jesus taught, he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, 39and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets!  40They devour widows’ houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”

41He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury.  Many rich people put in large sums.  42A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny.  43Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury.  44For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

8They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9But the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” 10He said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” 11The LORD God said, “Who told you that you were naked?”

3Incline your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live.  I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David.  4See, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples.  5See, you shall call nations that you do not know, and nations that do not know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.  6Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near.

WORD

13The Father has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. 15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16for in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers—all things have been created through him and for him.  17He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Colossians 1:13-17

In him was life, and the life was the light of all people.

1The LORD is king!  Let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!  2Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

Psalm 97:1-2

1After this I looked, and there in heaven a door stood open!  And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.”  2At once I was in the spirit, and there in heaven stood a throne, with one seated on the throne!  3And the one seated there looks like jasper and carnelian, and around the throne is a rainbow that looks like an emerald.  4Around the throne are twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones are twenty-four elders, dressed in white robes, with golden crowns on their heads.  5Coming from the throne are flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and in front of the throne burn seven flaming torches, which are the seven spirits of God; 6and in front of the throne there is something like a sea of glass, like crystal.  Around the throne, and on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind: 7the first living creature like a lion, the second living creature like an ox, the third living creature with a face like a human face, and the fourth living creature like a flying eagle.  8And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and inside.  Day and night without ceasing they sing, “Holy, holy, holy, the Lord God the Almighty, who was and is and is to come.”  9And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to the one who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10the twenty-four elders fall before the one who is seated on the throne and worship the one who lives forever and ever; they cast their crowns before the throne, singing, 11“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
