Sacred Reading – November 3 through November 9, 2020

1Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

2I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old,

3things that we have heard and known, that our ancestors have told us.

4We will not hide them from their children; we will tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.

5He established a decree in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach to their children;

6that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and rise up and tell them to their children,

7so that they should set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments.

Psalm 78:1-7

  • Prayerfully listen to the Scripture throughout the week by clicking on the audio link above.  As you listen, familiarize yourself with the message of the passage and consider what the Scripture means – in general and for you specifically.
  • Consider practicing the holy listening exercise know as Sacred Reading, which involves listening to the Scripture three times:
    • Click on the audio link above.  As you listen the first time, ask God to point out to you a word or phrase from the Scripture.  What is God saying to you in this Scripture?
    • Click on the audio link above again and listen to the Scripture a second time.  As you listen this second time, ask God to reveal to you the holy intentions for this word or phrase that is being spoken into your life.  Why is God speaking this message to you?
    • Click on the audio link above again and listen to the Scripture a third time.  As you listen this third time, ask God how you might respond to this word or phrase being spoken into your life today.  How does God want you to respond to this holy message?
  • As you engage the Scripture during the week, consider these four important questions:
    • What am I hearing in this Scripture?
    • What does this Scripture say about God?
    • What does this Scripture say about me and the world?
    • What is God asking me to do in response to this Scripture?
