Read: Luke 1:39-45
Centering Verse: When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. (Luke 1:41)
- When has someone offered you genuine hospitality? What was that experience like?
- When has someone spoken life-affirming words over you (especially during a time of great apprehension)? What affect did this have on you?
- What evidence of the Holy Spirit’s presence do you perceive today?
How do you experience the presence of the Holy Spirit within you? Just by entering into the presence of Christ, in utero, Elizabeth and the baby she carried (John the Baptizer) were filled with the Holy Spirit. Sometimes that infilling is accompanied by an ecstatic joy. Sometimes a heavy, silent presence is sensed when the Holy Spirit is present. Other times, we might not “feel” anything at all, but instead accept the presence of the Holy Spirit by faith. However you might experience the Spirit, the Spirit is there with you always. Christ poured his Spirit out upon us to keep his presence and work with us in this waiting period in which the Kingdom is slowly, deliberately being brought to us. Take a moment today to sit in stillness and silence, asking the Spirit to reveal himself to you. How will you respond when the Spirit shows up?
Closing Prayer: LORD God, fill us with your Spirit.
